The restaurant there at this park in the pavilion is excellent. It serves only lunch I believe but the environs and staff are great as well as the food which is laid out buffet style. Great place to eat on your way back from or to the palace grounds.

Update 2013: The New York Grill & Bar has excellent appetizer and dessert buffet and very good-to-excellent food overall. High-end American food with a Tokyo flair. Beautiful view from the restaurant (see the last two photos above).

This is a spectacular work of art. There are copies of Maman located around the world, many are temporary installations like this one. It is due to be moved at the end of 2013, according to Wikipedia. Louise Bourgoise created the sculpture in 1999. Her statement: "The Spider is an ode to my mother. She was my best friend. Like a spider, my mother was a weaver. My family was in the business of tapestry restoration, and my mother was in charge of the workshop. Like spiders, my mother was very clever. Spiders are friendly presences that eat mosquitoes. We know that mosquitoes spread diseases and are therefore unwanted. So, spiders are helpful and protective, just like my mother." I lived at Mickey House in 1986-1987 for about four months and had a great time. I also have fond memories of Saki-san - going out drinking in Kami-Itabashi. Sad to hear that he died in '96. I am going to Japan again soon, does anyone remember the address so that I can go take a look again? Jeff

How mental! My (now) wife and I lived in Mickey House in 1991/92 (for about 18 months). We got an well with Saki-San - and like the other poster, I was saddened to hear that he had died. I had a fantastic time there and met some really superb people - many of whom remain my friends. I've always wanted to return to Tokyo and have a look around Kami Itabashi (Murasaki izakaya near the station, the sento we used to go to etc). One day!
