  • Weekly Mansion Akasaka, Kevin (guest) wrote 17 years ago:
This is one of the housing options for foreign Temple University Japan students studying abroad. The other choice, besides living with a host family, is The Green House in Minowa Ward. For any American students who plan on going to TUJ for a semester or more, I highly suggest living at the Weekly Mansion here in Akasaka. It's a great central location, only a 15 bike-ride to TUJ and conveniently located along the Chiyoda Line. The building staff is very respectful of privacy and amenities (such is the Japanese way). The only thing they might ask of you is to keep the noise down late in the night (don't forget, this is a hotel). The building itself is probably 15 or 20 years old - not brand new, not run-down either. There are washers and dryers on the first floor, high-speed internet in every room, and balconies overlooking AMAZING views of Akasaka. If you are the type of kid who likes to party, Roppongi is a 5 minute walk away. Although it's notorious as a late-night party district, the Roppongi scene has been historically a district for foreigners (and still is to this day). Drinks are expensive, the Nigerian men on the street are rude, and you'll hardly find any authentic Japanese scenesters partying there. However, it's a good place for American kids who don't feel like exploring and want easy access to nightlife. Again, Temple University students, DO live at the Weekly Mansion ! You won't regret it!

The rent is soooo steep here that Starbucks can't afford to sell the cheaper coffees. It's some of the most expensive real estate on earth.
  • Hamadayama Station, Joe (guest) wrote 17 years ago:
Hamadayama Station is a non-express stop on the Keio Inogashira train line which runs between Shibuya and Kichijoji. It is about 18 minutes from Shibuya and about 12 minutes from Kichijoji. There are two elevators - one around the corner from the entrance (right side) that takes you to the ticket gates and one inside the ticket gates (left side) that takes you up to the train tracks. Trains run every 2 - 4 minutes during the busy hours (morning & evening) and about every 8 minutes during the balance of the day.

Starbuck's first store was at this crossing and there was a 2 hour wait to get coffee the first day it opened. The only starbucks store to have only 3 items on the menu.

I stayed there for 10 months in 2005. The rooms are small but well furnished. It is a conveniant and fun place to live. The rent was expensive but not too bad for Japan and there was no key money, etc. It was Y104,000 per month.
